Very interesting article. I always said that one 'learns by doing' devised by the way I myself learn. It never dawned on me until now that there is a whole school of thought and theories centered around this. I have previously completed an apprenticeship which whole mode of learning can be accredited to constructivism. There is huge emphasis on 'hands on' experience and interacting with the physical tools and materials used while learning. The use of discussion and communication is key to learning during an apprenticeship and is aptly facilitated as students work alongside each other in dedicated workshops to complete tasks. This mode from my understanding is strongly embedded in constructivism and its application and I believe is a very powerful and effective way of learning that works with young children right up to and throughout adulthood.
